Becoming a creator

An adapted extract from the Creator’s Manifesto: intelligence, uncertainty, and the capacity to act.

In a world of AI, the ability to think matters more than ever. The difficulty lies in understanding complex situations, seeing relationships beyond a single professional role, and initiating changes that last.

Professional expertise helps us solve tasks that are already defined. Problems often come before that: neither the question nor the method is clear. Working with them requires the capacity to frame a situation, build models, and turn uncertainty into something we can act on.

A practice of development

Updating professional skills is part of development, but it is not the whole of it. The foundations of thinking also need continued work: learning, reflection, analysis, and synthesis.

This calls for environments that support regular intellectual practice, communities in which people work and discuss ideas together, and guidance that connects development to a person’s actual life.

Taking responsibility for change

Creators are people willing to act without guarantees. They invest time, attention, and resources in a future that is still taking shape. AI can support this work; human judgement and responsibility remain essential.

The aim is to make this capacity more widely available. Development then becomes a way of contributing to the systems we are part of: our projects, organisations, communities, and the wider world.

The full argument and its original wording are available in the Russian manifesto.
